PETER GEORGE HARPER
Over the last 30 years, he was the leading Consultant Medical Oncologist at Guy’s Hospital where he and the team significantly improved patient outcomes. During the same time, he built one of the most successful private cancer treatment practices in London.
In 2004, Dr. Harper was awarded France’s highest national honor, the Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur, by President Jacques Chirac, in recognition for his services to French National Cancer Strategy, a rare honor for a British National. He is a past Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Board Member of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), Board Member of the International Gynaecological Cancer Society (IGCS), and Board member of many National & International Cancer Committees.
Dr. Harper has published extensively, having authored or co-authored more than 300 papers. In 2005, he was the Founding Partner of the London Oncology Clinic (LOC), that has grown to over 100 oncologists in multiple cancer disciplines, at five centers in London and The Christie Hospital in Manchester.
A key component of his vision for LOC was a 360° holistic approach to cancer care, ground-breaking when launched, that is now widely recognized as best practice for both cancer-specific and general medical care. Dr. Harper initiated the Living Well Programme, now the established treatment model for post-chemotherapy cancer patients and their caregivers.
Dr. Harper’s vision and ability to implement has driven innovation in patient-centric cancer care and much improved patient experiences, which only recently is a key metric reflecting the quality of medical care delivery.
Most recently, Dr. Harper founded Welbeck Health Partners, a cutting edge private out-patient clinic in London, focused on diagnostics and day surgery. With over 200 consultant clinicians, the team enables a seamless patient experience across clinical units, in a 50,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility, that incorporates all major medical disciplines. Dr. Harper is exceedingly proud of this capstone achievement to a career focused on driving and delivering new models of excellence in medical care.
